In 2011 (Junior): Matthew made a team-high 14 starts and three relief appearances…struck out 64 batters and recorded three wins…named the OVC Pitcher of the Week (March 14)…threw six innings or more in five contests including a seven-inning victory against Youngstown State as he struck six batters, while giving up just one hit.

In 2010 (Sophomore): Shepherd appeared in 15 games for Tech, starting on the mound in eight of them...in a total of 45.1 innings pitched, he logged 38 strikeouts en route to a 1-1 record and a 9.53 ERA.

In 2009 (Freshman): Matthew started eight games for the Golden Eagles and made 12 appearances his freshman season…had 20 strikeouts and 23 walks in 36.2 innings pitched …finished with a 3-3 record and 9.33 ERA…struck out five batters in five innings pitched in his first career start against St. Peters on Feb. 21, earning the win.

Sullivan East High School: Finished his senior campaign with a 2.21 ERA, earning all-conference and all-region recognition...won team’s top pitcher award after his junior year…posted a 6-2 record with a 1.93 ERA throughout his junior season…a versatile athlete who played third base, shortstop, and second base in addition to pitching for coach Mike Breuninger.
